The data

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) supply regularly updated data on crime and criminal justice through the annual United Nations Survey on Crime Trends and Operations of Criminal Justice Systems. The Homicide Rates shown are based on the most recent data (in April 2021), which are 2018 data when they exist, and otherwise 2017 or 2016 data. Homicide Rates are intentional homicide victims per 100,000 population. Intentional homicide means unlawful death inflicted upon a person with the intent to cause death or serious injury. The Homicide Rate range for a specific region shows the minimum and maximum values of the Homicide Rates in the countries belonging to that region.
