The Corruption Perceptions Index 2018 ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption according to experts and business people.
The Index is based on 13 surveys and expert assessments to measure public sector corruption. A scale of 0 to 100 is used, where 0 is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean.
The Corruption Index for a specific region is an average value of the Corruption Indices of the countries belonging to that region (with equally weighted countries).
The country indices reveal that more than two-thirds of the countries score below 50 with an average score of just 43 – and therefore these countries fail to control corruption.
